Removing Fiber Posts

Post removal with safety and predictability.

Due to the growing demand of cosmetic interventions in the dental practice, new metal free retention systems have been developed. These fiber posts are similar to natural teeth in color. However, when retreatment is inevitable, removing non metal posts can be an obstacle to performing a new endodontic intervention. The use of ultrasonic tips to remove fiber posts can considerably reduce the treatment duration and avoid common mistakes related to this procedure.

E18D

E18D – Isthmus Diamond

The Isthmus D tip is specially developed to treat ishtmus or low access areas in which end and side cutting action is necessary.

E4D

E4D – Long Diamond

The E4D provides safe and effective side cutting or pulpal floor dentin removal. Essential in enlarging access and troughing groove walls.

E6D

E6D – Pear Diamond

The E6D – Pear Diamond has excellent durability. It is used to locate canals, remove coronal obstructions, calcifications, restorative materials, cements (permanent and temporary), etc. The tip creates a smooth, flat, clean troughing groove that eases canal location. It can also be used to refine prep margins and box preps, and to remove caries.

E3D

E3D – Ball Diamond

The E3D – Ball Diamond provides fine cutting control when troughing yet it is less aggressive than the E6D – Pear Diamond. It is designed to remove coronal obstructions, find canals, restorative materials, calcifications, etc. The E3D creates a smooth, flat, clean troughing groove that eases canal location. It can also be used to refine prep margins and box preps, and to remove caries.

Step-by-Step Fiber Post Removal

1 – Remove the crown using a high speed turbine with a regular bur;

2 – Isolate the treatment area with a rubber dam;

3 – Abrade the resin core using a high speed turbine with a diamond bur;

4 – Abrade the post inside the canal using a high speed turbine with a long round diamond bur;

5 – Using a diamond coated ultrasonic tip, typically the E3D or the E6D, abrade the remainder of the fiber post, keeping the power setting between 30% and 40%;

6 – During the procedure, keep the instruments in the same angle as the post;

7 – After locating the root canal or the restorative material, remove the Gutta-Percha and shape the canal with the appropriate rotary instruments.
